The City of Moultrie and their
engineer, Carter & Sloope, contacted Centrisys to come in a
perform
a pilot and dewater their anaerobic digesters with a Model CS 18-4
Centrifuge. The Centrisys pilot was a self contained skid mounted
machine with sludge pump, polymer feed system, and control panel
mounted on a trailer.
The goal of the pilot was to see how
the centrifuge would perform with Moultrie’s digested sludge and how
labor intensive it would be to operate a centrifuge compared to the
labor required to dewater their sludge on the existing drying beds.
The first few days of the pilot was
spent testing sludge feed rates and polymer types and polymer
strengths to optimize the performance of the machine. Once this was
done, it was go, go, go until the plant’s digesters were basically
"pumped dry". The plant personnel were shown the tricks of the trade
on how to
operate
the centrifuge and by the third day, were operating it with little or
no supervision.
The test results were extremely
positive. In summary, the sludge coming to the centrifuge was in the
5% to 6% range and the dewatered solids coming off the centrifuge were
consistently above 30% dryness.
